"YOU CAN LIVE AT ANY WEIGHT YOU CHOOSE" - THE REAL REASONS DIETS HAVEN’T WORKED FOR YOU
THE REAL REASONS DIETS HAVEN’T WORKED FOR YOU
1. Diets Haven’t Worked For You Because They Only Attempt To Treat The Symptoms, But Do Not Reach the Real Problem
You’ve been on scores of diets. Very bright people who are experts on nutrition formulate them. They may contain an ideal balance of foods that are not only good for you, but contain a limited amount of calories that will enable you to “lose” weight. However, diets are inherently flawed because dieting attempts to treat the symptoms instead of the real problem. The “symptom” of your problem is that you weigh 30 pounds too much. That, unfortunately, is not the real problem. It’s only the symptom. The real problem is that you felt that you “needed” to eat enough food to cause you to weigh 30 pounds too much and you feel a “need” to continue to eat enough food to keep you weighing 150 pounds. When you have a pain in your stomach you go to the doctor who gives you medicine to cure the source or cause of your pain. Pain is only the symptom. Taking a pain pill isn’t going to solve your medical problem. It’s the same thing with weight. Trying to take off pounds only addresses the symptom. It’s not going to solve anything; furthermore, you won’t be able to do it on a permanent basis anyway. You want proof? You are the best proof. You’ve repeatedly tried it and you haven’t been able to do it.
2. Dieting is Based On Deprivation, which, in the Long Run Will Not Work.
Dieting, by definition, is the act of depriving you of food that you not only want, but also feel a “need” to eat. An eating regimen based on long-term deprivation is impossible to achieve. That’s why, even though you may “lose” weight for a period of time, you will invariably “gain” back that weight.
3. Will Power Will Not Work To Effect A Permanent Change In Your Weight.
Some people like to say that the reason they can’t get to the weight they want is that they lack the “will power” to stay on a diet. They don’t lack any “will power.” They just can’t do it. “Will power” is not going to stop you from eating foods that you emotionally feel you need to eat. It is just a meaningless and frustrating exercise when it comes to eating. You have plenty of will power to get up early, do chores that you are not fond of, work late when you really don’t want to and a thousand other things. However, it has not, and will not, “work” when it comes to eating. Why? Because you are eating for emotional reasons and “will power” cannot possibly overcome an emotional “need” to eat. It hasn’t, has it?
4. Dieting Stops You From Eating The Foods and the Amount Of Food You Believe You Need To Satisfy Your Emotional Needs.
Diets are premised on the assumption that you have the emotional ability to eat less or differently because of logical reasons. Most diets have the same essential program- eat sensibly and get a reasonable amount of exercise. Sounds easy, doesn’t it? If it were that easy everyone, including you would weigh exactly what she wanted to weigh. The fact is that you can’t eat “sensibly,” no matter how hard you try or what you do. You will eventually eat the foods you feel a need to eat and in the amounts you feel you need.
