SEVENTIETH DAILY EXPERIENCE

Well, it’s time to say “We told you so.” Last Sunday the New York Times had a featured article asking if the low-carb diets had run their course. The article discussed how the sale of low carb products had dramatically slowed and that millions of people had given up low carb diets. We predicted this in our Daily Experiences months ago when low carb diets were the rage and people were calling the low carb diet the solution to being overweight. The low carb diet was introduced in about 1820. It faded from popularity then and came back in various forms over the years and each time disappeared. Dieting is not the answer. We say again that “losing weight” is a flawed concept. Weight is only a symptom. It is not the problem. You cannot cure a problem by tinkering with the symptoms. It’s a foolish notion.

So let’s talk about the “experts” again. There are organizations and departments in universities who say they are dedicated to a study of obesity. They are the people who are misleading everyone. (Don’t forget that a lot of the people working on the obesity issue are overweight – don’t you just love that?) Everybody has a new diet and a new diet book. Everyone has a new gimmick. Don’t forget that the “weight loss” industry is a multi-billion dollar industry. Everyone wants to be in the game. In order to try to be part of this big money business the experts are inventing things to say. They are now saying that if you get more sleep you will weigh less. They are saying that if you are served smaller portions you will weigh less. They are saying that if you keep track of how many steps you take a day or exercise 2 hours a day you will weigh less. THEY ARE ALL WRONG. There isn’t a shred of truth in any of that. It is all nonsense. They don’t understand the problem. If they did understand the problem they wouldn’t know how to begin to solve it. They are wasting your time as well as your money.

You are putting food in your mouth for emotional reasons. That is the whole problem. There is no other problem. Nothing any of these geniuses is saying recognizes the real issue, let alone the solution. They really don’t have a clue. If you want to begin to eliminate emotional eating, before you put any food in your mouth ask yourself why you are putting that food in your mouth. After all, if you don’t want the food in your system why are you putting it in your mouth? If you tell yourself the truth you will see that you feel a “need” to do so. That “need” is what is keeping you weighing what you do.
