| You like to say you have a good appetite. It makes you feel good to say that. You’re proud of your appetite. You know people who are picky eaters. You think that they don’t have good appetites. You feel sorry for them. They’re almost second-class citizens. But you weigh 30 pounds more than you want to. Why are you so proud of your appetite? Do you think that your appetite is what’s causing you to weigh what you do? Wouldn’t you rather have a smaller appetite? Have you ever really thought about what your appetite really is? Let’s do it. Most people think of an appetite as the amount of food one wants to eat. If you like to eat a lot of food you have a “good” appetite. If you don’t like to eat a lot of food you have “no” appetite or a “bad” appetite Let’s analyze what an “appetite” really is. Remember, that all you do when you “eat” food is put it in your mouth, taste it, chew it and swallow it. Then it’s in your system. There isn’t any more to eating. You can glamorize it all you want, but that’s all there is. So now, what part of eating do you consider your “appetite”? Is it the fact that you can put a lot of food in your system? Is that what your appetite really is? Or is your appetite determined by how much food you can put in your mouth? It’s really got to be one or the other. The food only goes in those places. Now which is it? You’ve probably never thought about your appetite. Now is the time to think about it. Now is the time to tell yourself the truth. Hey, you weigh 30 pounds too much. Why would you want more food in your system? Is that why you eat all that food - to get it in your system? Do you enjoy feeling really full? The kind of feeling you get when you can lean back and pat your stomach after eating a lot of food? Or do you like to have lots of food in your mouth even though it only stays there for a very short period of time? Is that what you call your appetite? You know you’re eating more food than you should if you want to weigh less. Is it your “appetite” that is causing you to eat as much food as you do? Don’t leave this Daily Experience until you are able to tell yourself what your appetite really is. If it takes a little while, so be it. It’s important that you understand this. Then you will begin to understand why you eat all the food you do. |
