| A reader of our book recently told me that her daughter, a highly intelligent young woman studying at a prestigious university, had been wrestling with her weight. Apparently, it was not a battle she was winning. Millions of people say the same thing. They are wrestling with their weight. Wait a minute. Everyone knows, or should know, that weight is only a symptom. It is the direct result of putting too much food or certain kinds of food in your mouth and chewing and swallowing the food. (Remember, that’s all eating is) So how can you wrestle with a symptom? You can’t. There is really nothing to wrestle with. If you have a pain in your tooth you don’t wrestle with it. You know it’s the result of a cavity or other problem with your tooth. You go to the dentist and he fills the cavity or eliminates whatever it is that is causing the pain. The same thing is true of any pain or discomfort resulting from a medical problem. You know you can’t wrestle with it. You also know that once the infection or whatever is causing your pain is eliminated that your pain will automatically go away. It’s the same with weight. Your weight is only a symptom resulting from the food you put in your mouth. Everyone knows this. It’s not new. Then why is it that all everyone talks about is “losing weight”? What they are really saying is they want the symptom to go away without eliminating the cause of the symptom. That’s why virtually no one permanently loses weight on diets. Dieting is just tinkering with the symptom. When you begin to think of it that way you will understand why people “wrestle” or “struggle” with their weight. Everyone knows exactly what to do to weigh less. You don’t need any expert to tell you. If it were just an intellectual solution this woman’s very bright daughter wouldn’t have to wrestle with her weight at all. She could solve her “weight problem” in no time. It is not a question of intellect. She, and everyone else, is putting food in their mouths for emotional reasons. That is what she, and everyone else, has been unable to control. Why? Because the only solution is to eliminate her Emotional Need for Food® or ENF®. This is precisely why in our book we take the reader through a series of emotional experiences so that she can understand and feel the emotions that are compelling her to continue to put all that food in her mouth. That is the ONLY way to eliminate them permanently. After all, if you no longer have any emotional need to put food in your mouth you can then make an intellectual decision about what you want foods you want to put in your mouth and what you want to weigh. Then, weighing what you want to weigh becomes a very simple matter. This woman’s daughter (and you) can then weigh whatever she wants to weigh. |
