FIFTY-EIGHTH DAILY EXPERIENCE

You know how everyone says the hardest part of “losing weight” is not gaining the weight back. Why would you ever do such a ridiculous thing? You struggled for weeks or months to “lose” all that weight, so why would you ever “gain it back”? That really is ridiculous, isn’t? Of course it is. However, you have “gained back” weight you thought you had lost lots of times. You really should think about why you gained that weight. After all, no one forced you to regain the weight. You weighed a lot more before you “lost weight” but your weight didn’t vary by much. You may have been fat, but you stayed fat at a certain weight. You hated weighing that much. So why would you “gain back” all that weight once you “lost it”?

All you had to do is put just enough food in your mouth to remain at that lower weight, like you used to do to remain at a much heavier weight. Sounds easy enough, so why couldn’t you do it? Very few of your friends kept weight off permanently, assuming any of them did. On paper, it’s easy. All you had to do is just eat pretty much the same way you did when you were heavier and maintain a stable weight. But you couldn’t do it. Don’t you think it’s about time you faced the truth about why you weigh what you weigh?

Are you ready? Can you handle this? You weigh what you are emotionally comfortable weighing. That’s right. You can read it again. You think this is ridiculous. You hate being fat. You can’t stand it. You are sure you are very uncomfortable, emotionally and every other way, being fat. Really? Is that really true? Then why did you get fat and stay fat? Why do you think it was so difficult to “lose weight”?

You also know that it was really hard for you to lose all that weight. You had to watch yourself all the time and repeatedly tell yourself what to eat and what not to eat. It was tough. Why do you think it was that difficult? What was the problem? After all, all “losing weight” involves is putting less food in your mouth. That’s the whole deal. Why would you care how much food you put in your mouth? You get plenty of nourishment, so that’s not the problem. So, what is?

The fact is that as much as you liked weighing less you couldn’t stay at that lower weight because, emotionally, you weren’t comfortable at that weight. You weren’t comfortable putting less food in your mouth. The fact is that you were more comfortable being fat. You don’t like to hear this, but it’s true. Not to worry. All that is going to change.
