FORTY-EIGHTH DAILY EXPERIENCE

O.K. You’re fat. You know you’re fat. You don’t want to be fat. You can’t stand it. You hate it. But there you are – fat. Maybe you’ve been fat for a while, but you haven’t gotten used to it. You still hate it. O.K. So what are you going to do about it? Do you want the real answer? If you do, you’re probably doing to absolutely nothing about being fat. What? You can hardly stand to hear that. Of course you’re doing things about being fat. You’ve gone on diets, ate different foods for a while, took a bunch of magic powders or pills that people sell, tried to exercise and where are you? Pretty much nowhere.

Isn’t it time that you face the real truth? Can you handle it? The truth is that you have emotional needs that you are trying to satisfy with food. Of course, you’ve heard that before, probably from this website or our book. But you don’t want to think about that because it’s too unpleasant and you will think of yourself as some sort of an emotional weakling. You don’t even want to believe it, so let’s prove it.

You know exactly what to do to weigh less. It’s not a secret. It’s not rocket science. Just stop putting so much food in your mouth. Remember, all eating is essentially just putting food in your mouth, tasting it and chewing it. There really isn’t any more to it. However, you can’t stop doing it. If you could exist for any reasonable period of time without feeling the need to continue to put as much food in your mouth as you do, you would weigh a lot less – actually pretty much what you want to weigh. But experience has taught you that you can’t. The solution to your problem is so simple and you can’t bring yourself to do it. You are keeping yourself a prisoner of your emotional eating. It’s all you. You feel you need to put all that food in your mouth. That is the whole problem. That is why you are in emotional bondage to food, or rather, to putting food in your mouth. That’s why if you “lose weight” you are almost certain to gain it back. It’s that need to keep putting food in your mouth. You really must get rid of that “need” or you are always going to be fat. We know that’s not pleasant to hear, but you know it’s true. The good news is that you can get rid of that “need”.
