FORTY-SEVENTH DAILY EXPERIENCE

You weigh too much. Maybe way too much. And there you are frantically looking around for ways to weigh less. Is that your real problem? Oh sure, you’d love to weigh less. It would just be terrific if you could weigh 20 or 30 or 50 pounds less. Everybody and their brother has promised – and guaranteed – you that you can weigh less if only you will give them some of your money for whatever they happen to be selling at the moment. Isn’t your real problem that you put enough food in your mouth to cause you to weigh too much? Why did you do that? You know it was just crazy. However, you knew exactly what you were doing when you kept putting all that food in your mouth. You knew you were making yourself fat. You knew that you would end up exactly where you are – desperately looking for a way to get back to where you were. Hey, you didn’t have to leave the weight you used to be, but you did it. You did it all by yourself.

Everyone wants to blame the food or the people who make food and the people who sell food. You know better, but you really don’t want to take the responsibility for what you did to yourself. It would be too painful. That’s o.k. You don’t have to beat yourself up. However, you really have to look back to the times that you put on all that weight. You really must go there. There isn’t any other permanent way to get where you want to be. You must tell yourself why you put all that food in your mouth. This is something you have to deal with. No one else can do it. You have to.

Were you under a lot of stress? Was something bothering you? Was it your family, your job, your spouse or significant other? What was the problem that caused you to make yourself fat? Don’t ever forget that you did this to yourself. Did it happen all at once? Did it happen over time? Why did you do it? This is a critical issue. You will find that if you think back to the times that you gained weight and you tell yourself the truth you will be able to isolate the real reasons you put all that food in your mouth. You will find that they were emotional reasons. Logically you didn’t want to be fat but you made yourself fat, knowing all the while exactly what you were doing. It was more important to you, emotionally, to put all that food in your mouth than it was to continue to weigh what you did. Put yourself through this experience. It will begin the process of freeing you from the emotional needs that caused you to become fat. Then you will be able to weigh whatever you want to weigh.
