FORTY-FIRST DAILY EXPERIENCE

Today we are going to look at the recent news to illustrate just how misguided the “experts” and the news media are when it comes to issues of weight and obesity. There was an article in the national news recently about a suburb near New York City where the residents of that area were complaining that they had gained weight because they weren’t getting as much exercise as they used to because everyone drove around instead of walking. You hear that from lots of people. They say they are gaining weight because they don’t get enough exercise. Other people say that they don’t like to exercise and that is why they weigh too much.

Do you really believe that? Can that really be true? Is it really the lack of exercise? Let’s say that for various reasons a lot of people don’t exercise as much as they want to or should. So what? Is that really any kind of an “excuse”? Does it make sense? Is that really why they weigh too much? Of course not! You know they’re just deluding themselves.

You know, all those people had to do to stop gaining weight was to put less food in their mouths. If they were burning up fewer calories all they had to do to avoid gaining weight was to consume fewer calories. See, that wasn’t very hard. We solved the problem. Of course, we didn’t solve the real problem. The people who were gaining all that weight and complaining about it knew that all they had to do was put less food in their mouths and they wouldn’t gain any weight at all and they would have nothing to complain about. The real problem was that they couldn’t stop putting all that food in their mouths. They continued to put the same amount of food in their mouths even though they knew they would gain weight. It seems like self-inflicted damage, doesn’t it? Of course it is. But those people couldn’t help it. They simply had to put all that food in their mouths. It was their emotional needs to put all that food in their mouths that caused them to weigh too much. It had nothing to do with lack of exercise.

Are you doing the same kind of thing? Were you, or are you, putting food in your mouth when you know it will cause you to gain weight? If you are, why do you continue doing it? The big difference between you and those other people is that you know why you are doing it and you are in the process of eliminating the emotional reasons that you feel you have to put food in your mouth that you know – for sure – will cause you to become, and stay, overweight. Once you logically and emotionally understand exactly why you are putting all that food in your mouth, you can stop doing it. You won’t need all that food any longer.
