| Well, you are finally convinced. Now you know that the reason you weigh 30 pounds more than you want to weigh is because you have this “need” to keep putting food in your mouth. You don’t want the food in your system. You just have to keep putting it in your mouth Of course, once you do that you swallow the food and there it is in your system. You know this. Now you want to know how to make the “need” go away and never bother you again. Let’s do it. First of all, you should read the book again. It tells you exactly how to do it. But since this is new to you, repetition won’t hurt. You have to understand intellectually what you are doing. Therefore, every time you even think of putting a piece of food – any food – in your mouth you have to ask yourself why you are doing it. Do not eat the food until you answer that question. O.k. what’s the answer? Are you really hungry in the sense that you need the food for nourishment? Or are you just putting the food in your mouth because it’s there or because it’s something you do when you are offered food? It’s very important that you understand the reason for putting all that food in your mouth. Of course, that’s what is keeping you weighing 30 pounds too much and making you very unhappy. You can’t just walk around complaining about your weight when you don’t even know why you eat all the food you do. After you do this for a while you will begin to understand why you are eating all that food. You will also learn that you have been kidding yourself about why you eat all that food. Let’s start with some of the nonsensical reasons you used to give yourself. You didn’t eat because you were just lazy. You didn’t eat because the food was just there. You didn’t eat because the food was too appetizing to turn down. You didn’t eat because someone offered you the food and you didn’t want to hurt his or her feelings. You ate the food because you literally had to. You never wanted to think of this before. You didn’t want to think that you didn’t have control over what you ate. You always wanted to some great sounding excuse or reason. It made you seem like a jerk to say you had no control over what you ate or the amount you ate. Now you have told yourself the truth, probably for the first time. Now you are beginning to understand your real problem. It’s step one. You’re on your way. |
