TWENTIETH DAILY EXPERIENCE

Don’t you feel foolish? Here you are, an adult in full possession of all your mental faculties, and you weigh 30 pounds more than you want to. You don’t want to weigh what you do but you just sit around complaining that you can’t seem to “lose weight.” You want a new diet, something that really works, a diet that will enable you to “lose” 30 pounds and be really happy. You want a magic potion, a secret formula, something that someone from another country has invented that will cause your “weight problem” to disappear. You want a prince charming with the ability to change your weight to walk into your life and whisper the secret into your ear. You just know the secret formula is out there somewhere; you just haven’t been able to find it yet. That’s why you keep “trying” new fads and eating programs with all sorts of different combinations of foods You even buy pills or herbal remedies or powders or other similar products that are “guaranteed” to enable you to “lose weight.” They are advertised on the radio. Every magazine at the check out counter at your supermarket has an assortment of magazines that promise you will “lose” 5, 10 or even 20 pounds just in time for summer so you can get into your old bathing suit.

You probably “try” those diets or buy those magazines or buy the pills or whatever. Why do you do those things? Do you still believe in Santa or the Tooth Fairy? You probably have a better chance of running into Santa or the Tooth Fairy than you have of permanently “losing weight” with those diets or pills or whatever it is you’re “trying.” Isn’t it time that you came to grips with the real problem? You know that none of those things will ever “work.” They will never enable you to weigh what you want to weigh on a permanent basis. Actually, you already know that. You’ve tried them over and over. You probably don’t even know anybody whose has permanently lowered her or his weight. Sure, you know people who have “lost weight” on various diets for a while, but they always seem to go back to where they started. So have you.

Unless you eliminate the emotional reasons that you feel you need to eat the way you are, you will never be able to permanently weigh less than you do now. However, once you eliminate those emotional reasons you will be able to weigh whatever you want to weigh.
