| Today you’re going to do something really unpleasant. It’s going to make you very uncomfortable. You are going to go back to the time before you were 30 pounds overweight. Remember back then. You liked your weight. You were comfortable t that weight. You weren’t worried about your weight. You thought you would always weigh what you did. The thought of weighing 30 pounds more was impossibility. It was something that just couldn’t happen. But it did. So now you are going to relive the time when your weight went up by 30 pounds. Of course, only you know why this terrible thing happened to you. What? You can’t seem to remember? Don’t kid yourself. Of course you remember exactly when you started gaining weight. It may not have happened all at once, but you knew it was happening. You felt it when you put on your clothes. You saw it when you got on the scale. It didn’t bother you very much at first because you told yourself that you would “lose it back.” But you didn’t. And you found you couldn’t. But the real question is why you gained weight in the first place. After all, you didn’t want to weigh 30 pounds more. You knew why you were gaining weight. You were eating too much. O.K., so why did you continue to eat as much food as you were eating? Why didn’t you just eat less? You know why. There was something that was causing you to eat more (e.g. put more food in your mouth) than you should have. It wasn’t an accident. You just weren’t “lazy”. What was it? You don’t even have to say it out loud. Think it. Then just whisper it to yourself. Once you told yourself the real reasons why you it was more important for you to eat (e.g. put food in your mouth) than it was to weigh what you did, you will understand why you gained weight. It’s really important for you understand why your weight increased when you didn’t want it to. Don’t just think about it once. Think about it a lot. Make sure you remember what it was that caused you to put all that food in your mouth. The fact is that it was emotionally more important to you to put food in your mouth than it was to weigh what you wanted to weigh. It must have been a powerful emotional force to cause you to put enough food in your mouth to gain 30 pounds more when you didn’t want to gain any weight at all. |
