Daily Experience #14

FOURTEENTH DAILY EXPERIENCE

It’s Christmas time. It’s the holidays. It’s party time. Everyone seems to be having a party. You are even having an office party. It’s almost non-stop. It’s just one party after another. But you weigh 30 pounds too much. But, then again, you’ve been here before. It’s nothing new. You know exactly what’s going to happen. You are going to eat way too much food. You are going to gain weight. You are going to hate yourself for eating as much as you know you are going to eat. Then you are going to make a New Year’s resolution to “lose weight.” However, you know that any resolution you make to weigh less is going to be meaningless. You are going to end up the holiday season weighing more than you do now.

But you don’t want to weigh more than you do now. You know you will regret it and that it will make you unhappy. You really want to weigh 30 pounds less than you do now. You know that weighing what you do is not healthy. Weighing more only increases the problem. So why are you going to eat all that food if you know that it is going to cause you to be unhappy? You don’t do other things that make you unhappy, so why are you going to eat all that food. Think about what you are going to do. You know you’re going to eat all that food even though you know the consequences. You are going to intentionally hurt yourself. Don’t you think that’s foolish? You know better, so why are you going to do it?

You don’t even want to think about it. You hate reading this. You want to have fun. You think that if you don’t eat all that food that you will be depriving yourself. The thought of not being able to eat all the food you want is too terrible to contemplate. Just the thought of it makes you uncomfortable. You can’t think of yourself at a party and not tasting all the food. It would be your worst nightmare. Not only would you hate it, your friends would make fun of you and accuse you of being “on a diet” while they put as much food in their mouths as they could. They would probably laugh at you. You would hate yourself if you didn’t eat all the food you thought you wanted to eat.

Well, you’re going to eat all the food you want anyway. But this time, at every party, before you eat any food remind yourself that eating all the food you are doing to eat will make you unhappy. If you want to see how you are going to feel, in advance, go to the FIFTEENTH DAILY EXPERIENCE.
